USPS is buying Thousands of Ford Electric Vans

Malik | March 2, 2023

The United States Postal Service (USPS) recently announced its plans to purchase 9,250 Ford electric delivery vans. This marks a significant step forward in the USPS’s efforts to modernize its fleet and transition to more sustainable transportation options. The deal is part of a broader effort to electrify the USPS’s fleet, which currently consists of more than 200,000 vehicles.

The USPS is one of the largest vehicle fleets in the world, and as such, it significantly impacts the environment. In recent years, the USPS has been working to reduce its carbon footprint and become a more sustainable organization. The purchase of these electric delivery vans is a significant step forward in this effort.

The Ford electric delivery vans, known as the E-Transit, are specifically designed for commercial use and offer a range of up to 126 miles on a single charge. This makes them an ideal option for the USPS, which operates primarily in urban and suburban areas where daily delivery routes are typically shorter. The E-Transit vans also offer a range of advanced features, including built-in telematics and an available 12-inch touchscreen display.

The purchase of these electric delivery vans will help the USPS reduce its carbon footprint and save the organization money in the long run. Electric vehicles have lower operating costs than traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, thanks to lower fuel costs and reduced maintenance requirements. According to Ford, the E-Transit can save up to 40% on maintenance costs over the vehicle’s lifetime compared to traditional gas-powered delivery vans.

In addition to the environmental and financial benefits, the purchase of these electric delivery vans will also support American jobs. The E-Transit is built at the Ford Motor Company’s Kansas City Assembly Plant, which employs approximately 7,100 workers. By purchasing these electric vans, the USPS is supporting American manufacturing jobs and investing in the future of the domestic electric vehicle industry.

The USPS’s purchase of these electric delivery vans is a significant step forward in the organization’s efforts to modernize its fleet and become more sustainable. By transitioning to electric vehicles, the USPS is reducing its carbon footprint, saving money, and supporting American jobs. As other organizations look to reduce their environmental impact and modernize their fleets, the USPS’s example may serve as a model for sustainable transportation.
